Simulation of Aquaculture Production (SAP)

Simulation of Aquaculture Production is a series of three Excel spreadsheets for simulating the production of sea bass (D. Labrax) in cages in the open sea.

These spreadsheets provide insights into aquaculture production and business simulations.

Overview

Each spreadsheet provide an introduction to the zoological and technical considerations facing aquaculture 

Each simulation is based upon tables, models and calculations. For example

Zoo_tech uses :

Tables
 site’s Thermal Profile, (mean weekly temperature),
d a Daily Feeding Table plus other information and models.

Models

a general Daily Growth Model, an

Sim_Real uses the same tables and models as Zoo_Tech plus :

Real data eg
Real Number Exchanged – actual number of fish removed or added to the cage
Real Mean Weight(g) – actual measured mean weight (in grams) of the fish.
Real Mortality – number of fish which actually died.
Real Food (Kg) – amount of food distributed to the fish.

By adding real data the simulation is more accurate and high lights mathematics drift which is useful when refining models to specific situations. 

SAP (Simulation of Aquaculture Production) also

also uses the same tables and models in Zoo_tech and adds other tables :
Business Control (credit, subvention, taxes, etc..)
Details of Production / Environment (food, biomass, etc.)
Fixed Cost (gas, electricity, training, etc..)
Variable Expenses (medicines, disinfectants, etc..)
Salaries (Employees, social charges, etc..)

Lobster Production

LAGOSTA – The objective: sustainable aquaculture production of lobsters. By valorizing experimental research, I provided scientific expertise and development advice (method, means). My intervention also contributed to securing financing for the development of a production site and also to win the Partner Award (second place) in the Monegasque Competition 2016 of Business Creation (MonteCarlo. Monaco).

Aquaculture Information Management

Aquaculture Information Management (AIM) is a database system which provides data entry masks and file management for  60 files.   It is designed to store data, perform simple calculations and interface with spread sheets (see SAP).

The goal of this software is to organize production data in order to better manage and simulate an aquaculture installation.   As aquaculture becomes a more visible activity it is vulnerable to mis-information, regulations and controversy.  Detailed information can resolve many questions and provide assistance for consensus building.
The following “screen shots” illustrate the application and provide information concerning production data and methods.

European Aquaculture Accounting and Information Management Training Course

University of Crete, Greece, Université des Sciences et Techniques du Languedoc (France) –  BIO GESTION – French, Italian and Greek university students learned aquaculture using software the European Community’s “COMET” program commissioned me to develop in collaboration with French students.

Thalassa, Foods of Greece, SA, Greece  – had me review their Aquaculture Information Management tools and redesign tools with data management and simulation for their aquaculture installations in Greece.

French and Spanish Tuna Fishing Activities

THUNNUS – Data management and reporting system for a joint European project between French and Spanish researchers concerning tuna fishing activities in the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. The system stores observer’s information pertaining to the fishing boat’s course, fishing activities, catch and by-catch results and uses SQL (System Query Language) to extract data for analysis.

The Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France

The Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France –  MUSIC (MUSeum Ichthyology) –The MNHN needed a solution which would management the museum’s fish collection, aid in measuring , classifying and provide access to collections to researchers around the world.  The simple yet flexible tools I developed were used throughout the entire museum and around the world.

Experimental Fishing Data

PIR is a system for storing and extracting fishing data for presentation and statistical analysis.

A system to manage and analyze experimental fishing data. The project included process support for standardizing and converting existing (25+years old) experimental fishing data to reflect correct data relationships and current processing conventions. A GUI and menu driven queries, generate user accessible SQL programs for data extraction. Ten different calculation groups generate summary files based upon the extracted data. Calculations such as basic statistics (number, mean weight, body condition, etc. by sex, maturity, capture time, etc.), also stomach contents (depending on size, sex, catch time, etc.), length / sex breakdowns, migrations, environmental condition (temperature, pH, etc.) plus many others. Calculated results are stored in files and maybe combined with other query results, exported (to i.e. Excel, SAS) or printed as reports.
